Coping / defense Mechanisms
Defense mechanisms are behaviors people use to separate themselves from unpleasant events, actions, or thoughts. These psychological strategies may help people put distance between themselves and threats or unwanted feelings, such as guilt or shame.

Mecanismos de defesa são comportamentos que as pessoas usam para se separar de eventos, ações ou pensamentos desagradáveis. Essas estratégias psicológicas podem ajudar as pessoas a se distanciarem de ameaças ou sentimentos indesejados, como culpa ou vergonha.

Denial 
Refuse to accept reality or facts - to not have to deal with the emotional impact.

Some feelings or thoughts make you feel uncomfortable. instead of accepting, you project.
Example: You don't like your new colleague. You tell yourself they dislike you.

Direct strong emotions or frustrations to 'the wrong person'

Regression
Escape to an earlier stage / period. 
A lot of children use this: they start wetting the bed again as if they are babies. Adults do it too: overeat, smoking, avoid activities, chew on pens.

Rationalization
Explain un-desirable behaviors with own 'set of facts'.
Example: being angry at colleague for not completing work on time, while you are 'forgetting' you are always late.
