Compound sentence: hoofdzin + hoofdzin 
Je kan twee zinnen samenvoegen met een voegwoord. Je kan hiervoor deze voegwoorden gebruiken: and, but, so, or
Voegwoorden maken altijd een verband tussen 2 zinsdelen!

We are going to have a celebration for Julia and give her an awesome gift.

Sentences
Complex sentence: hoofdzin + bijzin 
Je kan een zin uitbereiden met een voegwoord en een bijzin. Je kan daarvoor deze voegwoorden gebruiken: although, after, because, before, that, when, which, who. 
Voegwoorden maken altijd een verband tussen 2 zinsdelen!

I want to ask you a question because I don't understand it.

Like -als/zoals (lijkt er op)
Je gebruikt ''like'' om personen, dingen of dieren met elkaar te vergelijken. Je gebruikt ''like'' vaak na woorden die met zintuigen te maken hebben, zoals: look, sound, taste, smell, feel

She looks like her mom.
That tastes exactly like the dish I had in India.

Je gebruikt ''as'' om de rol of baan van iemand aan te geven. ''as'' betekent hier ''als''.

As a nurse, I take pride in my work. (Ik ben een verpleegster)
Like a nurse, I take pride in my work. (Ik ben geen verpleegster)
Als je hier ''like'' gebruikt verandert de betekenis naar ''net zoals/op dezelfde manier''.

Je gebruikt as...as... om twee dingen met elkaar te vergelijken. 
They are not as nice as he is. (niet zo aardig als hem)

Vergelijking met ''the same'', volg je op met ''as''.
His backpack is the same as mine. 
His backpack is the same one as mine.

Je gebruikt ''as'' ook in de bijzinnen om te zeggen dat iets op een vergelijkbare manier gebeurt. 

We often eat sushi, as they do in Japan.
