Natural gas
Russia is an important supplier of energy to Europe.
BUT... Pipeline goes through Ukraine....

Russia uses its natural gas to put pressure on Ukraine:
conflict = gas supply cut off
Which means large parts of Europe will also be cut off...

Slide 7 - Diapositive

Natural gas to the NL
Russia, Germany, the Netherlands and GB laid the Nord Stream pipeline to avoid the fallout from conflicts between Russia and Ukraine.

Important for NL because:
- Alternative to dutch gas
- NL want to become gas hub

Slide 8 - Diapositive

Russia engages in geo-politics
= political power that a country wields by exploiting its natural resources or its geographical location.

Plan for future:
- Agreement to double Nord Stream
-  Plans for Turkish Stream (2019)
Europe no longer gets gas via Ukraine?
