How to use during?
1 You use during when something happens throughout a longer period of time.
Example: Jessica will stay in Hawaii during the holidays.
2 You use during when an event takes place during another ongoing event.
Example: During the lecture, Martin dropped his pen.

You use for when you want to stress the duration of an event or action.
Example: I have been saving money for years.
