Stress patterns

Try to find a way out of the maze .

You can go through any doorway if the word in the next cell has the same vowel sound as the one you start from.

For example in the maze for æ (hand), you can go through the doorway to the cash cell as this word has the same vowel sound. You can't go through the doorway into the want cell as this word has a different vowel sound.

Nouns (zelfstandig naamwoorden) with two syllables (lettergrepen) usually have the stress on the first syllable in English. This is true in about 90% of cases.

For verbs (werkwoorden) it is more common for the stress to be on the second syllable. This is true in about 60% of cases (so there are plenty of exceptions!).

If we write a first syllable stress as Oo and a second syllable stress as oO, then which of these two stress patterns is used for melon and which for prefer?

These are the typical stress patterns for nouns and verbs, but there are plenty of exceptions.
