1st: 

If I study hard, I will pass the test.

2nd: 

If I studied hard, I would pass the test.

If I study hard, I will pass the test.

Als ik hard studeer, slaag ik voor de toets. 

2nd conditional

If I studied hard, I would pass the test. 

Als ik hard studeerde, zou ik slagen voor de toets.

1st conditional:              if + present simple, will + hele werkwoord

                                              If I study hard           , I will pass the test.

2nd conditional:           if + past simple, would + hele werkwoord 

                                              If I studied hard, I would pass the test.

Wanneer gebruik je de 1st conditional?

als het best waarschijnlijk is dat iets gaat gebeuren, nu of in de toekomst

Wanneer gebruik je de 2nd conditional?

als je meer informatie wilt geven over onmogelijke en/ of onrealistische situaties nú en in de toekomst

If it rains tonight,

1. I don't go out

Second conditional

Een onmogelijke of bedachte situatie

If + past simple , would + hele werkwoord

Past simple: regelmatige ww (ww+ed/visit->visited) en onregelmatige werkwoorden (2e rij: go -> went)

If it rained, it wouldn't be so bad to stay inside. 

(It is sunny now, so imaginary situation) 

Let op:

• Will & would komen nooit in hetzelfde deel van de zin als 'if', altijd in het andere gedeelte!
