Plan for today
  • Review T2.1 - 2.3
  • Ask questions
  • Study for test

Slide 3 - Diapositive

2.1 Learning goals
  • I understand and can read food chains
  • I can distinguish the different roles in a food chain (producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer and quaternary consumer)
  • I understand the energy pyramid and understand why energy gets lost

Organism that uses photosynthesis

Slide 5 - Question de remorquage

Food chain
Producers are plants, because they
produce food with photosynthesis

Consumers are animals that eat other
organisms.

We use the words primary, secondary and
tertiary to describe if they are the first,
second or third consumer in the chain

Slide 7 - Diapositive

Energy pyramid
The energy pyramid shows that you
lose energy with every step in the food chain.

This is because:

Consumers don’t eat the entire organism
Organisms use up some of the energy
Organisms produce waste that has some energy.

Slide 8 - Diapositive

2.2 Learning goals
  • I know the names of the 7 types of nutrients
  • I know what the 7 types of nutrients are used for in the body
  • I know in what kind of foods the different nutrients are present
  • I can read food labels and understand what calories, quantities and daily value mean
  • I know what food indicators are and understand how they can be used to test the food for certain nutrients

Slide 9 - Diapositive

Food molecules
Food is made out of molecules.
Nutrients are food molecules.

There are seven types of nutrients:
  • Carbohydrates
  • Proteins
  • Lipids
  • Minerals
  • Vitamins
  • Water
  • Fiber

Slide 11 - Question de remorquage

FOOD LABLES
Shows:

Quantities: amounts

Calories: energy in the food

Daily value: recommended amount of that nutrient per day

Slide 12 - Diapositive

INDICATORS
Indicators show (indicate) if a certain substance is present or not

Slide 13 - Diapositive

Which food indicators do you remember?
And what do they indicate?

Slide 14 - Question ouverte

2.3 Learning goals
  • I know the steps of the digestive system
  • I know which organs the food goes through and what happens in those organs with the food
  • I know the three different types of teeth and what they are used for.
  • I understand the difference between a carnivore, omnivore and herbivore and can recognize them by their teeth

Slide 15 - Diapositive

Steps of digestion
  • Ingestion is putting food in your mouth.
  • Digestion is the process of breaking down large molecules into smaller ones.
  • Egestion is the process of removing waste products (pooping)

Slide 18 - Diapositive

Teeth
There are 3 different types of teeth:

Incisors - front teeth that bite off pieces of food
Canines - also help bite off food, predators
use them to hold their prey.
Molars - back teeth that grind our food into smaller pieces
