Welke mensenrechten ken je? Het zijn er 30!

Human Rights 

• Human rights are rights and freedoms for all people everywhere, regardless of their nationality, gender, heritage, race, religion, language or other status.  
  
  

• Human rights are protected and supported by international and national laws and treaties.

Het belangrijkste verschil tussen grondrechten en mensenrechten is territoriaal. Mensenrechten zijn universeel, zonder enige beperking. Een grondrecht daarentegen bestaat binnen een specifiek rechtssysteem, met de beperkingen die de wet toekent. Daarom domineert het concept van grondrechten in de staatswetten.

De mensenrechten staan in een verklaring die is opgesteld door de Vereningde Naties (VN). De VN zijn een internationale organisatie waarvan bijna alle landen ter wereld lid zijn. Binnen de VN werken landen onder meer samen op het gebied van veiligheid en mensenrechten. Alle leden van de VN hebben de verklaring ondertekend waarin de mensenrechten beschreven staan. Door deze verklaring te ondertekenen, hebben deze landen beloofd om ervoor te zorgen dat de mensenrechten in hun land worden nageleefd.

Hoewel bijna alle landen de mensenrechten verklaring hebben ondertekend, worden in veel landen nog regelmatig mensenrechten geschonden. In sommige landen is er bijvoorbeeld geen godsdienstvrijheid of heeft een groot gedeelte van de bevolking geen toegang tot gezondheidszorg.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International is an international non-governmental organization focused on human rights, with its headquarters in the United Kingdom. The organization says it has more than ten million members and supporters around the world.
