Standards
G.3D.1 Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving three-dimensional figures.

MS-ETS1-2. Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

HS-ETS1-2. Design a solution to a complex real-world problem constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions.

HS-ETS1-3 Evaluate a solution to a complex real-world problem based on prioritized criteria and trade-offs that account for a range of constraints, including cost, safety, reliability, and aesthetics, as well as possible social, cultural, and environmental impacts.

MS-ETS1-4 Develop a model to generate data for iterative testing and modification of a proposed object, tool, or process such that an optimal design can be achieved.

What is 3D Printing?
  • 3D printing is a process to make a real life three-dimensional (3D) object.
  • A 3D printer is a type of fabricating, industrial robot.
  • Unlike an ink-jet printer which can move only in two dimensions (2D), the parts on a 3D printer can move in three dimensions along three axes. (X, Y, & Z)
  • The 3D printer has an extruder which controls the feeding of the filament.

How do 3D printers work?

Plastic is fed through the extruder (print head) and joined together on a print surface (bed) to form an object.

Slide 8 - Diapositive
