Did you know...?

Australia is an island, far and isolated from other land. That's why many of the animals that live out there aren't found anywhere else on earth. That might not be so bad, because Australia has a lot of scary animals. 11 out of 15 of the world's most poisonous snakes live in Australia! In Northern Australia, you also have to be careful of saltwater crocodiles that live in rivers.

Australia - built by 'criminals'

At the end of the 18th century, Britain wasn't doing well. Often people couldn't find work. so they were poor and hungry. Many people had to steal to survive, and got arrested. there wasn't enough space and money to send all these 'criminals' to prison, so they were put on prison transport ships to Australia. The first settlers in Australia were 736 prisoners and about 500 marines and officers.
