Pronouns - differences
  • Who is it? - It's me! It's him! (niet gevolgd door een bijzin, dan gebruik je hier het pronoun als lijdend voorwerp - me/you/him/us etc.)
BUT
  • It is he who left for work early (gevolgd door een bijzin, dan is het pronoun (voornaamwoord) het onderwerp - I/you/we/he etc.)

  • Woordvolgorde - TB Grammar p. 145

  • It -> dingen/babies/kleine kinderen (you don't know whether it's a he/she)

  • It is/It was -> kan naar meervoud verwijzen (It is people like you who ... / It was the Canadian soldiers who liberated ....)

  • Men -> one says (formal!!!)/lijdende vorm (I have been told / It is told that...) / we, you, they, people say that ....

Pronouns - differences
  • er -> there (bij plaats of richting)

But

  • Geen "introductie er" aan het begin van de zin (alleen bij "to be")
Er volgde een akelige stilte. -> A toe-curling silence followed.
Er zijn maar weinig studenten -> There are only a few students.


  • erover/ervoor/erop etc.  -> about them/it; for them/it; on it/on them etc.

Possessive Pronouns
  • A) It's his bike. / It is your job  / These are my books
  • B)  it's his / It's yours / They're mine

  • It's VS Its.    (It's true / It's been a long while. VS Its cries were unbearable.)

  • 1) Ons huis -> our house / this house of ours; 2) Haar vriendin -> her friend / this friend of hers etc.

Reflexive Pronouns 
wederkerende voornaamwoorden:
myself
yourself
himself/herself/itself/oneself = onpersoonlijk
ourselves
yourselves
themselves

For example: I've hurt myself. They introduced themselves. They've really enjoyed themselves.

Note the difference in verbs with reflexive pronouns in Dutch but NOT reflexive in English:
To be wrong, to imagine, to look forward to etc. PAGE 151!!!

Demonstrative Pronouns 
aanwijzende voornaamwoorden:

This  / That
These / Those


This (enkv) + These (mv.) = dichterbij
That (enkv) + Those (mv.) = verderweg
