Popular papers (tabloids) have a focus on sensation, celebrity, television and gossip. these papers are often not a very reliable source of information and prefer entertainment over actual newsworthy information.  

Broadsheets are more formal and focus on more serious matters. these papers are often referred to as quality papers and are more reliable than tabloids.

The term tabloid refers to its size. In size, tabloids are similar to magazines

Broadsheets refer to the most common newspaper format. the typically have 57 cm long vertical pages although, they have shrunk with time.
