Slide 5 - Quiz

Drag the words below to the correct boxes.
Two air masses meet
Water vapour condenses
Air cools down
Air meets a mountain
Air starts rising
The air is very warm

Slide 6 - Question de remorquage

So conclusion:

- Rain always forms when air rises. Since the air cools down, and water vapour condenses to form clouds and rain.

There are three different reasons why the air rises:
- A mountain (relief rainfall), to colliding air masses (frontal rainfall), heat (convectional rainfall)

Low air pressure
High air pressure
Very cold day in the winter
Air rises
Air moves down
Rainy
Clear skies
Sunny
Strong winds
Warm day in the summer
Not very cold in the winter

Slide 8 - Question de remorquage

It is a warm day in July with clear skies. The wind most likely comes from the ...
A
Northeast
B
Southeast
C
Northwest
D
Southwest

Slide 9 - Quiz

- Why east?
When the wind comes over land, it is very warm in the summer (and very cold in the winter). The land warms up quickly, and cools down quickly.

- Why south?
Wind from the south (equator) is warmer than wind from the north (north pole).

Slide 10 - Diapositive

It is a rainy day in the winter. The wind most likely comes from the ...
A
West
B
East

Slide 11 - Quiz

- Why west?
When the wind comes over sea, there is more water vapour in the air than when the wind comes over land. So it rains more.

Slide 12 - Diapositive

There are icy cold winds blowing over the Netherlands. The wind comes from the ...
A
Northwest
B
Northeast

Slide 13 - Quiz

- Why east?
When the wind comes over land, it can be very cold in the winter. The land cools down quickly. If the wind comes over sea, the wind is warmed up by the sea because the sea doesn't cool down quickly.

Slide 14 - Diapositive

It is a mild but rainy day in May. The wind comes from the ...
A
Southwest
B
Northeast

Slide 15 - Quiz

- Why west?
It is rainy and wind over sea brings more water vapour than wind over land.

- Why south?
If the wind came from the north, it would have been colder (since the wind would have come from the north pole).
