Linking verbs describe the state of something:
  • Sally is 12 years old

  •  Your room looks a mess!
  • smells / seems / appear / sounds - are also linking verbs

Basic spelling rules ----- Adjective to adverb
Most adverbs follow the rule of adding "ly" to the end
Real ---->   Really, Sure ----> Surely   
However, there are exceptions........
1. Happy ----> Happily   (Ends in a "y", remove "y" and add "ily"
2. Comfortable ---> comfortably   (Ends in "le", remove the "e" and add "y"
3. Comic ---> Comically  (Ends in "ic" add "ally")
