What is an elevator pitch?

Definition elevator pitch

An elevator pitch, elevator speech, lift speech or elevator statement is a short description of an idea, product, or company that explains the concept in a way such that any listener can understand it in a short period of time. This description typically explains who the thing is for, what it does, why it is needed, and how it will get done. When, talking an individual person, the description generally explains one's skills and goals, and why they would be a productive and beneficial person to have on a team or within a company or project.

Your assignment:

• Work in pairs

• Create an elevator pitch for a travel destination:
  

You have to convince others to visit your dream travel destination, highlighting its unique attractions and experiences.

• Present your pitch by the end of this lesson
• Make sure each of you speaks the same amount of time
• start en conclude your pitch correctly.

 

• Introduce yourself
• state what your goal is of this elevator pitch
• sell yourself to the receiver of the elevator pitch
• keep it short (max. 30 seconds)

6 steps of an elevator pitch:

1. Goal of your pitch

2. Who are you and what's your (relevant) experience

3. What makes you unique? (selling points)

4. End with an engaging/ enthusiastic statement (call to action)

5. Put it all together

6. Practice and record your elevator pitch

Keep it simple!

Tips:

• Know your Unique Selling Points (qualities) and mention them in your pitch!

• Keep it short (25 - 60 seconds) 
• A pitch doesn't have to be complete! 
• You want the employer to be interested in you

• Be enthusiastic and convincing
• Use your own words and present yourself
