What are some of the ways to formulate the future in English?

1. present continuous, will/shall+verb, be+going to, present simple
2. present continuous, past continuous & will/shall + verb

Future (o.t.t.t): What are the 4 ways to express the future?

will/shall + verb, present continuous, be+going to, simple present

1a will/shall + verb: iets gebeuren in de toekomst

It will be sunny on Friday. 

1b will/shall + verb: iets voorneemt op het moment dat je het zegt "I think"

I think I will go to bed early tonight.

I will get the lemonade and the apple crumble pie. 

1c will/shall + verb: na wens, veronderstelling, belofte, aanbod, voorspelling 

I' shall pick you up tomorrow, promised! 

She hopes he will keep his promise. 

1d uitzonderingen

• shall verplicht = I & we + voorstel, besluit of voorkeur, intenties & voorspellingen 
• will verplicht = I & we? + informatie vragen dus hier geen shall gebruiken!!

I shall call them first thing in the morning. 

I will ask her to give me some of the details. 

How soon will they get the results? 

The new business cards shall be ready tomorrow. (What is incorrect?)

1. "shall" should be "will"
2. the sentence is correct

2. present continuous ( be + verb+ ing): verwijzing toekomst als voor  afspraak/plannen voorbereiding al getroffen is. 

Tomorrow, we are eating at my granny's place. 

In two weeks, I am marrying my boyfriend. 

3. be + going to: verwijzing toekomst bestaand plan // duidelijke aanwijzingen iets gaat gebeuren. 

Look at the plane! It is going in the wrong direction. 

My mother and I are going to Justin Bieber's concert. 

4. simple present

sprake van vaste tijden: aankomst/vertrek/opening/sluiten/aanvang/

eind 

Dear ladies & gentlemen, the plane leaves at 4 PM from gate 5B. 

The band's next show is on Friday evening at 11 PM. 

It's raining again soon! (What is incorrect?)

1. "raining" should be "going to rain"
2. this sentence is correct
3. "raining" should be "will rain"
4. It rains again soon

Please create two sentences using the future: One expressing a specific schedule/timetable & one where something is certain to happen.

Make a list of 5 or more happy adjectives and 5 or more sad adjectives
