Present perfect
You use the present perfect when:
  • Something happened in the past, but the time is not important;
  • Something started in the past and is still going on;
  • Something happened in the past that has effect on the present;
  • Something JUST happened or hasn't happened YET.

Irregular verbs have their own form (Learn by heart)

The time is important when using the past simple:
Recognized by words like: Yesterday, last year, in 2013, this morning, etc.

Time is not important when using the present perfect.

She gave me a very good idea YESTERDAY. (PS)
She has given me a very good idea. (PP)
