Je gebruikt used to + hele werkwoord om te zeggen dat iets in het verleden regelmatig gebeurde (gewoonte) of dat iets in het verleden zo was, maar nu niet meer.

I used to get up at 9am, now I get up at 10 am.

We used to read comics every day.

Gordon used to be a vegetarian.

Get used to / Be used to

Let op: 'Get used to' en 'Be used to' betekenen niet hetzelfde als 'used to' zoals net besproken. 

Be used to = Gewend zijn (permanente situatie)

I am used to my new house already

Get used to = Gewend raken (veranderende situatie)

I don't like my new house, but I will get used to it

Become used to = Gewend raken aan (formeel, veranderende situatie)

We have become used to the new house after a few years.

Be used to 

be used to + (ww+ ing)

Gebruik: aangeven dat we iets gewend zijn.

It's cold in Greenland, so they're used to wearing warm clothes.

Ze zijn in Groenland gewend aan het dragen van warme kleding, omdat het daar zo koud is.

Get used to

get + used to (+ ing-vorm)

Gebruik: Om te zeggen dat je ergens gewend aan raakt / raakte

I got used to waking up early because of my newspaper route.

It doesn't take long to get used to speaking English in class.

Become used to

become + used to (+ ing-vorm)

Gebruik: Om te zeggen dat je ergens gewend aan raakt / raakte + formeel

I became used to waking up early because of my newspaper route.

It doesn't take long to become used to speaking English in class.

Let op!

          Be used to, get used to, become used to kunnen in alle grammaticale tijden voorkomen!
