The Mocro Maffia

Derk Wiersum, Nabil B’s lawyer was killed on September 18th, spreading an wave of emotion throughout the Netherlands as well as highlighting the crimes of a mafia system particularly active in the city of Amsterdam.
Nabil B was part of a criminal organization lead by the most wanted fugitives in the country: Ridouan Taghi and his right-hand man Said Razzouki. He officially became a ‘crown witness’ after Taghi accidentally murdered the wrong person. This means that Nabil B. is a key witness in a case of high importance in the Netherlands. After the news came out that Nabil B was testifying against Taghi, his brother was murdered by him as well.

Nabil B is a previous member of Taghi’s clan which is part of the so called Mocro-maffia, a Moroccan network of organized crime based mostly in the Netherlands and Belgium. The Mocro Maffia grew through the trafficking of cocaine and synthetic drugs brought from Antwerp while the Taghi’s network mainly takes care of drugs entering Rotterdam, which is then distributed to the rest of the Netherlands.
Taghi’s traffic caused an increase in violence with more vendettas through gunshots between different gangs. They argued about their territories within the Mocro-maffia.
This case sheds light on Amsterdam’s ‘big problem’ with drugs and particularly the underground economy of hard drugs. The main police union of the country, the NPB (Nederlandse Politie Bond), declared after the murder of Nabil B’s lawyer that the Netherlands turned into a “narco-state.” In addition, it claimed that the municipality of Amsterdam were underestimating the criminality that plagues the Dutch society.
• Municipality: gemeente
• Underestimating: onderschatten
