Comparatives and superlatives...

What does that mean?

In Dutch, we say 

Trappen van vergelijking

Groot, groter, grootst

What does "to compare" mean?
EX: You can't compare water and milk - they're completely different

Comparatives

To compare = vergelijken

this word is used to compare words to each other.

Apples are redder than pears. 

My feet are smaller than yours.

What does the word "super" mean?

Superlatives

the word "super" means very, extremely.

Superlatives: The one that is "the most" (overtreffende trap)

He is the most handsome man in the world

That car is the fastest of them all

your bunny is cute, but mine is the cutest

How do we do this? 

Words with one lettergreep:

  -er and -est

Sweet - Sweeter - Sweetest

Words with two or more "lettergrepen": 

More and most

attractive - more attractive - most attractive

Dogs are cute, but cats are way ...

this part of the lesson is about describing what someone looks like. 

Think of things like: 

She is wearing a blue jacket

She has brown hair

That person has freckles

Try to think of of some words that describe someones appearance/ looks

Make a sentence about yourself.
I have.....
I am wearing... etc.

Game: Who is it? (wie is het?)

How to play

• One person stands in front of the class
• This person picks someone in class
• The rest of the class has to guess who this person picked

• The person in front of the class can only answer with Yes/No
• this person wears sunglasses so no one can see who he/she/they are looking at
