Reflections
Use the FlipGrid link in your Google Classroom to record your reflection and thoughts about how our Kahoot review and the Magic School Bus video relate to electricity and circuits.

Slide 6 - Diapositive

Lesson Objective
I can demonstrate that electric circuits require a complete loop through which an electric current can pass

Slide 7 - Diapositive

Exploration Time
1.  In your groups, explore the contents of your paper bag.  You should have one battery, three light bulbs, electrical wire, a switch, and three battery holders.

2.  Use the materials to create an object that is powered by the battery. You may select up to three additional objects from the classroom “Science pantry”, if needed.

3.  Create a group Discovery Education Studio Builder.  In the first section of the studio builder, work collaboratively to explain what object you created and what steps you took to produce a working model.

Gizmos Activity

In your groups, access the Gizmos activity on the next slide.
Your objective is to:
  • light one bulb
  • then light two bulbs
  • and then light three bulbs

In your Science notebooks, draw a diagram for each scenario above.

Circuits
You've had time to explore electrical circuits.
Now let's discuss WHY circuits work using a read-aloud text.

Ready, set, go!

Slide 14 - Diapositive

What is a circuit?

Slide 15 - Question ouverte

Pause & Think
1.  Discuss your definition of "circuit" with your group.

2.  Then, as a group, add your definition of "circuit" to the
second portion of your Discovery Education Studio Builder
(*remember this is linked in your Google Classroom).

Group Task

Slide 28 - Diapositive

Your Task...
In your three person groups, you will create a Canva presentation.
The presentation will be used to “teach next year’s fourth graders about circuits”.

Slide 29 - Diapositive

Your Canva must include...
  • 5 vocabulary words from the unit, include a definition and graphic for each word
  • A comparison of open circuits and closed circuits
  • A comparison of parallel circuits and series circuits
**Refer to your rubric & use the information you added to your group Discovery Education Studio Builder

Slide 30 - Diapositive

Individual task...
You will create a brochure to be used as a “study guide” for the circuits unit.  You will use Microsoft Word, Adobe Spark, Canva, or another program of your choice, with teacher approval.

The brochure must include the following:
•    Vocabulary section for the following words circuit, open circuit, closed circuit, parallel circuits, series circuits; include a definition of the word and an image to represent each word

•    Story situation or a sample assessment question using a real-world situation with answer

•    Link to a video regarding how circuits work

Slide 31 - Diapositive

Finally....
  • Revisit your Science notebook entry and add your final reflections.
  •  Revisit your K-W-L chart and add your thoughts, completing the "L" section.
  • Revisit your FlipGrid and add your final reflections.
  • Have a friend review your individual task before submitting your final product in the Google Classroom.
