Early years of the Cold War
The occupied zones of US, UK and France started working together, the occupied zone of the SU did not
The two sides drifted apart
In 1948 there was a long row about West-Berlin
Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union and communism, prohibited all access to West Berlin
The American supplied the city with everything it needed... by air!

In the years after WWII the occupied zones of the US, UK and France joined to become West Germany (democracy/capitalism)
The SU zone became East Germany (communism)
West Germany was much better at creating a succesfull economy and liberty than East Germany.
Many people from East Germany moved to West Germany
