Answer the questions, work in pairs.

• What is a comparative? When do you use it?
• Make a sentence using a comparative.
• What is the difference between "bigger" and "biggest"?

Comparative

Comparative (vergrotende trap): 

- adjective + er + than( taller, faster, smarter).

- 2 or more syllables: more + adjective + than 

  more beautiful than, more expensive than

 Superlative

Superlative: 

- the + adjective + -est 

           the tallest, the fastest, the smartest.

- 2 or more syllables: the + most + adjective 

             the most beautiful, the most expensive.

Comparatives & Superlatives

Comparative:

Superlative:

Comparatives & Superlatives

Irregular Forms: 

• Some adjectives have irregular forms 
• good → better → best, 
• bad → worse → worst, 
• far → farther/further → farthest/furthest).

Work in pairs (5 minutes)

Create  4  sentences in total in which you use the comparatives (2) and superlatives (2) 

• Comparing people 
• Comparing places 
• Comparing animals or objects in the classroom.
