First things first
Your first task is to finish component 2. In your PTA this is referred to as a HD. It is important for you to realise that this means that you are required to finish it in a sufficient way and in time. 
The coming classes we are going to spend on writing component 2. As a teacher I am not allowed to help you too much. I am allowed to help you decide on an appropriate essay question, essay structure and more. I'll happily do so!

What to do: component 2
-You write an essay on a global issue of your own choice from topics (see next slide for themes).
-The essay must be framed as a single question which is clearly focused on a global issue . 
-Length:  1750 to 2000 words.
-You should focus your individual research on identifying and exploring the context and basis of the arguments from different global  perspectives. You should identify different perspectives, understand the arguments, reasoning or claims upon which these perspectives are based, offer a critical view of them and reach a personal, supported view.

Important
1. The essay must be written in continuous prose
2. Include a list of sources used
3. Be submitted in an electronic format
4. Quotations must be fully referenced 
5. The essay must not exceed 2000 words -Work beyond
the 2000 word maximum will not be included in the assessment.-
6. An accurate word count must be clearly stated on each essay
7. The word count excludes the title, references and footnotes

Assessment
In the essay, candidates will be assessed on their ability to:
• identify, synthesise, analyse and evaluate relevant sources
• analyse at least two globally contrasting perspectives
• identify and evaluate the evidence that supports the perspectives
• explain how the research has affected their personal perspectives
• present convincing and well-supported judgements that answer the question posed
• suggest further relevant research
• communicate effectively and concisely, using technical terms where appropriate.

Possible format 
1. Opening paragraph: Thesis with concession, any term that needs clarified, and reflection on why this interested you
2. 2nd paragraph – Reason one, stated with the stem of the question.
Be explicit! Proof of the reason presented: use quotes, data, and global examples (Do not describe it!) Cite all information you didn’t know when you started this. You cannot over cite. Close with the question stem and the reason tied to the point you made in the paragraph. You can start with the thesis or the concession, it doesn’t matter.
3. 3rd paragraph - through the rest of the body, the same procedure is repeated for each reason
4. Closing paragraph – reflection how this has affected you and what you see as the future. Restate thesis with concession

"A thesis is a statement in a non-fiction or a fiction work that a writer intends to support and prove. One can find examples of thesis statement at the beginning of literary pieces."
A good thesis "predicts the path the essay will take, and tells readers how the essay is going to be organized, and what each part contains."

"Concession is a literary device used in argumentative writing, where one acknowledges a point made by one’s opponent. It allows for different opinions and approaches toward an issue, indicating an understanding of what causes the actual debate or controversy. It demonstrates that the writer is a mature thinker, and has considered the issue from all angles."

But that does not mean that such concerns should not be expressed and investigated. After all, improper interference with academic freedom was found to have taken place. And the allegations raised by doctors are ones which deserve further inquiry.”

This is why

Here the writer argues that though debating some issues can provoke arguments, they should still be discussed and looked into. In this way the author applied concession to include different persectives and then provide the reader with his own conclusion.
