You will receive a booklet with old exam texts basis/mavo that we will practice with. 

We will discuss different exam strategies and you will make texts/questions in the booklets and hand them in everytime. 

Reading booklet

Consists of: 

• strategies that you can use to answer the questions
• types of questions that appear on reading exams
• practicing with exam texts and questions 

Today: practicing with voorspellen & skimming and apply these to (multiple choice) questions. 

What do I expect of you?

• Write with a pen in your booklet. 
• Participate actively by underlining sentences in the texts when I ask you to do so or when you have found the correct answer. 
• Practice applying what I tell you, to the texts/questions. 

Before you start reading a text what can you do to have an idea of what the text is about?

voorspellend lezen/skimmen

voorspellend lezen = without reading the text, predicting what it is about. Take a look at the pictures, the source, type of text (newspaper article, fiction story, blog, interview etc.), title, subheadings. 

skimmen = to have a quick idea what the text is about. You can read the first sentence of each paragraph and the last sentence. Remember that the texts can be long on your exam. 

Multiple Choice questions 

1. Always read the question first before looking at the text! 
2. Take a look at the multiple choice answers. Do you know each word? Look it up in a dictionary. 
3. Formulate your own answer and compare these to the answers given.
4. OR wegstrepen = cross out the answers that are definitely wrong!

Multiple Choice (fill in) questions 

Always read the sentence before and the sentence after the gap to see which answer you need to fill in!
