Indefinite article: a/an

an : voor woorden met de uitspraak a o i u e

an apartment / an open carriage / an idea / an umbrella / an elephant

A  gebruik je als de eerste letter van het woord dat volgt als een medeklinker wordt uitgesproken, ook al schrijf je een klinker!

Gebruik a / an:

Het lidwoord the maakt van een zelfstandig naamwoord een specifiek exemplaar.

 Net zoals het Nederlandse 'de' of 'het'.
