most verbs add -ed                                                    work -> worked
verb -y -> remove y -> add -ed                              study -> studied
verb -e -> add d                                                            use -> used
sometimes you double the last consonant    stop -> stopped

- as /d/     (loved)
-as /t       (asked)
- as /id/   (started)
