Gebruik: Adjectives and adverbs 

Adjective ( bijvoeglijk naamwoord)  a noun (zelfstandig naamwoord)  zegt iets over een zelfstandig naamwoord (noun - persoon, dier, ding)  a good story )  
 Adverb (bijwoord)  zegt iets over:

1. verb (werkwoord) . Het zegt iets over de manier waarop iets gebeurt.  The car drives slowly.
2.  een bijvoeglijk naamwoord (adjective).  That movie is extremely funny.
3. een ander bijwoord (adverb). The car drives very slowly.
4.  een hele zin.  Fortunately, I brought my rain coat.

Carefully says something about the way she drives. 

Drive = verb (ww)

Car = noun

So we use an adjective = beautiful

2. softly

Answer

She spoke _________.

Says something about the way she spoke.

To speak = verb = adverb = softly

1. Unfortunate
2. Unfortunately

Answer

_______, we didn't meet.

Describes a whole sentence.

Adverb = unfortunately. 

Irregular adverbs

We also have some irregular adverbs. You need to know these by heart.

You can find them in your Of Course reference bool  on page 139.

For example:

Adjective  -  adverb

good               well

He plays the piano good.                                       

He plays the piano well.              

And please don't do this....

               He plays the piano good.                                                   That's a well boy! 

        

but do this!

               He plays the piano good.                                                   That's a well boy! 

              He plays the piano well.                                                     That's a good boy

Answer

Describes how you did it.

Verb = adverb = well

I ate some ______ pizza yesterday.

Describes the pizza (noun)
