Note: When we translate this tense into English we translate the verb "Haber" as "Have" ( he visitado>I have visited), however bear in mind that in Spanish the verb "Haber" does not mean "to have". "Tener" means "to have"

We use the Pretérito Perfecto when we refer to a recent past. For example:
 
Hoy he comido un bocadillo
(Today I have eaten a sandwich)

Esta mañana he hablado con mi amiga
(This morning I have talked to my friend)

Pretérito Perfecto vs Pretérito Indefinido
Pretérito Perfecto: It is used to talk about an action that happened in the recent past
Este fin de semana he comprado un vestido 
(This weekend I have bought a dress)

Pretérito Indefinido: It is used to talk about an action that started and finished in the past and it has no relationship with the present.
El fin de semana pasado compré un vestido
(Last weekend I bought a dress)
