Bezit  - 's /s'/ of

1. Possessive (bezit) 

In het Engels geef je bezit op 3 verschillende manieren aan:

's / ' / of

Maar wanneer gebruik je welke?

Possessive (bezit) 

                           She's a doctor    vs.    John's wife is French.

Both 'S look the same at first glance, but they are not!

In the first sentence, 'S is short for is. 

But in the second sentence, 'S is a form of the possessive = genitive (bezit)

--> bij meervouden die op -s eindigen

My neighbours' garden is nice
My sisters' rooms are messy
(meerdere zussen & kamers)

My sister's room vs. My sisters' room

Possessive (bezit) 

                 He's my best friend    vs.    My cat's whiskers are long

Again, in the first sentence, 'S is short for is

But in the second sentence, 'S is possessive = genitive (bezit)

3. Possessive (bezit)- of  

Zaken, hoeveelheden, aardrijkskundige namen 

The roof of the house.

The capital of England.

A cup of coffee

A pound of apples

Moeten

moeten = have to / has to + hele werkwoord

I, you, we, they + have to + hele werkwoord

I have to go. 

You have to do your homework. 

They have to help us. 

She, he, it + has to + hele werkwoord

My sister has to pass her exam.

 It has to happen.
