Adjectives
An adjective (bijvoegelijk naamwoord) 
says something about a 
noun (zelfstandig naamwoord) :

A beautiful young woman.
An old man.
A fast red car.

An adverb (bijwoord) is mostly formed by putting -LY behind an adjective:
Beautiful becomes beautifully;

An adverb says something about the way something happens.
