5.4. Power

Slide 1 - Diapositive

What do you know about section 3?

Slide 2 - Carte mentale

Power
The amount of electrical energy that a dievice consumes is called power.

The unit of energy is joules per second (J/s).

An other unit is watt
(W).

 1 W = 1 J/s.

Slide 3 - Diapositive

Power- ID plate
A dril of 300 watt, won't drille a hole as easy as a drill with 800 watt

Appliances with more power, are more powerful

More power, more use of electrical energy

So the bigger the power, the higher your energy bill

Een typeplaatje vind je vaak achterop of onderop een elektrisch apparaat.Op het typeplaatje vind je het vermogen van een apparaat.

Slide 4 - Diapositive

Power calculations
P= Power
U= Voltage
I= Current

Slide 5 - Diapositive

What is energy consumption?
the amount of anergy that transforms into an other energy per second.
Symbol: P
untit: watt (w)

Slide 6 - Diapositive

3.Solution
Asignment 1
timer
3:00
Calculate the power of the fan.

Slide 8 - Diapositive

1. Given
                         Voltage= U = 230 V
                         Current= I = 0,35 A
2. Asked
                           Power = P
3. Solution

         P=U x I
         P=230 x 0.35
         P= 80.5 W

Slide 9 - Diapositive

Energy consumption calculate
E = P x t

E = Energy consumption in kWh

P = Energie (power) in KiloWatt

t = time in hours

Slide 10 - Diapositive

Energy = power x time. A washer of 1000W is doing the wash in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Calculate the energy consumption in kWh
A
E= 1000 : 1.5 = 666.7 kWh
B
E= 1000 x 1.5 = 1500 kWh
C
E= 1 x 1.5 = 1.5 kWh
D
E= 1 x 1.30 = 1.3 kWh

Slide 15 - Quiz

A refrigerator consumes 0.6 kWh. What does it cost if you keep it on for 1 year. 1 kWh costs €0.25.
A
Costs= 0.6kWh x €0.25 = €0.15
B
Costs= 0.6kWh x €0.25 = €0.15 x 365 = €54,75
C
Costs= 0.6kWh / €0.25 = €2.40
D
Costs= 0.6kWh / €0.25 = €2.40 x 365 = €876
