Charles Dickens
Born in 1812

What other important historical event happened around that time?
The British Industrial Revolution (1760-1840).

A lot of people were quite poor but work could be found in the new factories that were in the urban areas (cities). People went to the cities in hope of finding work which meant that the cities became quite crowded. This led to low living conditions.

Charles Dickens tried to show this way of living to the readers.

People thought it dumb for him to write about a holiday that wasn't even popular at that time.
But Charles Dickens helped make it popular and turn it into the holiday we know now. A time where you give to others.

The man who invented Christmas
The movie we are going to watch is called The man who invented Christmas.

It is a easy-going family movie about the life of Charles Dickens and how he came up with the idea of A Christmas Carol.

Although it is not entirely based on facts, it does
show the story of the creation of A Christmas Carol
and the life of Charles Dickens.
