Brainstorm
Write down at least 10 ideas
The more you write down the better it usually gets

Focussing on the topic and the main point
The topic describes what the text is about, often in 1 word

The main point is what you're going to say about this topic, you can do this in one sentence

For example: The topic is: ambition
The main point: In three years' time I would like to work as a teacher

Learning from other writers
Study all sorts of texts and look for sentences:
- To start or end a text with
- To introduce a topic
- To say what you like or don't like
- To conclude a text with

You can also find expressions in your book

Formal and informal language
Formal; business letters, job applications, official documents, emails to companies or organisations

- Tone of voice and word choice are polite; I would like, I hope you will, I look forward to...
- Avoid abbreviations. So write I am, and not I'm 
- Mind your punctuation, spelling and grammar

Synonyms
A synonym is a word that has the same, or almost the same, meaning as another word.

It prevents you from using the same words again and again, it also improves how you communicate your ideas
