For all conditionals
  • There are four forms in total
  • Each conditional has 2 parts: the if-clause, the main clause
  • It depends on the chance which conditional you use
  • It depends on the conditional which form you use

Zero conditional
Use: There is no condition [=voorwaarde], it always happens like this. The chance is 100%

Form: If + present simple, present simple

If metal is heated, it expands.

First conditional
Use: There is a small condition [=voorwaarde]. The chance is between 50% and 100% --> possible and probable [=waarschijnlijk]

If + present simple, will + whole verb
If I see Danny,          I will tell him to call you.
(real possibility)     (result of this possible situation)

Second conditional
Use: There is a bigger condition [=voorwaarde]. The chance is less than 50%, but more than 0% --> improbable (for now) [=onwaarschijnlijk], but still possible 
Form: 
If + past simple,            would + whole verb
If I had the money,        I would buy a new laptop.
(not impossible)             (result of this improbable situation)

Use: The chance is 0% --> it is impossible

Form: 
If + past perfect,                would + have + past part. [=volt. dw]
If I had known ...                 I would have cleaned the house
(impossible, because       (the result of an impossible situation)

The Pizza Book Report
This pizza task consists of 2 parts
  1. In the first part, you will write down your answers to the exercises in full sentences in a Google Doc that you share with your teacher. 
  2. In the second part, you are going to create your pizza

Part 1: The six slices
  1. Characters – Top 3 characters in the book. Describe the main character.
  2. Setting – Describe in detail the setting where the story takes place.
  3. Problem – Describe in detail one of the problems in the story. 
  4. Solution – Describe in detail how the problem was solved.
  5. Summary – Describe what the story was about - important details.
  6. New Words Learned – Write down at least 10 new words that you’ve learned and either provide the definition or use it in a sentence correctly (no translation).

Part 2: Create your pizza
  • Use the six slices from part 1 to create your pizza.
  • You can do this either digitally or on paper. In both cases, make sure that you share it with your teacher when it’s finished.
  • Make sure that your pizza contains all six necessary ‘slices’, see the Google Doc on the Classroom
  • Make sure that the title & author of your book are also present on the pizza (or perhaps add a pizza box…)
  • Pizza toppings you are allowed to use illustrations/drawings/etc., as long as your pizza slices also contain text (full sentences).
