Lesson aim

At the end of the lesson the student knows:

- the difference between active and passive voice.

- How to change from active to passive and vice versa. 

- had fun with a game.

Active and passive voice

Active focussed op WIE het doet.

I am buying a new watch.

Passief focussed op de ACTIE

A new watch is being bought by me.

Stel je wilt een actieve zin, passief maken. Dan doe je het volgende:

Het lijdend voorwerp wordt het onderwerp.

I bought a watch.

A watch was bought (by me).

Er komt een vorm van to-be bij gevolgd door een voltooid deelwoord (past participle).

A watch was bought (by me)

- Was is een vorm van to-be

- Bought is een voltooid deelwoord.

Let op! De tense blijft het zelfde.

I do the dishes.

The dishes are done (by me)

I did the dishes

The dishes were done (by me)

I have done the dishes.

The dishes had been done (by me)

I am doing the dishes

The dishes are being done (by me).

I was doing the dishes

The dishes were being done (by me)

I had done the dishes

The dishes have been done (by me)

Change the sentence in active/passive:
She is cooking dinner.

Change the sentence in active/passive:
They are washing the dogs.

Change the sentence in active/passive:
I eat fruit twice a day.

Change the sentence in active/passive:
The wall is being painted (by him).

Change the sentence in active/passive:
Shrek is being watched (by mr. Smith)

Practice

Maak nu de extra opdrachten onder CHAPTER 2 EXTRA OPDRACHTEN/ SLIM STAMPEN

Maak er 1 van de active/passive voice en kies dan 2 andere uit.

Activity

1. Make groups of six.
   
2. Divide into two teams of three.
   
3. Download the "Half a minute" app. 
4. go to settings --> Difficulty = 4 --> Language = English
5. Hit new game and fill in the information.
   
6. Once started, explain what the words are without calling them out by name. The rest of your team tries to guess them.
