Tag questions
  • Are short sentences at the end of a sentence. We use tag questions to ask for confirmation. 
  • To encourage a reply from the person we are speaking to
  • A positive statement is followed by a negative question tag and A negative statement is followed by a positive question tag.

  • We use much with uncountable nouns.
  • Example: Louis can’t speak much Spanish
  • We use many with countable plural nouns
  • Example: How many children do they have? ; Louis doesn’t know many Spanish words.
  • We use a lot of with uncountable and countable plural nouns.
  • Example: They have a lot of friends. ; I have a lot of money.

will & shall
  • Will & shall are modal verbs (hulpwerkwoorden).
  • Shall is used for future time reference with 'I' and 'We'
  • We use will and shall to make predictions and to state facts about the future:
  • 'There will be strong winds tomorrow in the south of the country.'
  • 'We shall need an extra bedroom when the new baby arrives.'
  • Will and shall (usually in the short form ’ll) are used to announce decisions and to make offers.
  • A: Which size do you want? Medium or large?
  • B: I’ll have large. (decision)
  • Wait. I’ll open the door for you. (offer)
