Place before Time!

He sold his wares here yesterday.

I always leave at 7 a.m.

Relative pronouns

Relative pronouns 

NL: die (bij 'de-woorden'), dat (bij 'het-woorden), wat, waar. 

ENG: who, which, that, what, where, when

Betrekkelijke bijzin: begint vaak met een betrekkelijk voornaamwoord dat verwijst naar iets of iemand die al eerder zijn genoemd. 

Relative pronoun

Kan bijv. verwijzen naar:

• een zelfstandig naamwoord (a noun)
• een voornaamwoord (a pronoun)
• een hele zin (a main or subclause)

Compare

The woman ..... called said she'd ring again later.

The man ..... I admire the most is Nelson Mandela. 

Nelson Mandela, ...... I admire, was in prison on Robben Island. 

Where is the book ..... Paul lent you.

These are the flights ..... have been cancelled this week.
