Introduction

Part of the Summer Safety series, in this session pupils will learn about the dangers of playing near building sites and consider safer alternatives.

Instructions

We have designed our Summer Safety lessons so that teachers can pick up and teach a topic to their class with confidence.

We have chosen to use a balance of interactive tools and 'unplugged' creative activities.

Lessons can be taught directly from the LessonUp slides but work best when children have access to the pupil app
Lessonup.app

Sharp tools or heavy machinery
Materials that are easy to trip over
Building materials. These may cause injury or contain dangerous chemicals

Alternative Places to Play
.
Places to Play
Where else can you play in our area?
You may have a skate park or cycle track nearby.
Local playgrounds have been designed so that children and young people can use them safely.
Sports fields are checked to make sure that they are safe. Local leisure centres often have free or discounted sporting activities for children and young people during the summer. Ask your teacher for details.

Slide 6 - Diapositive

Encourage students to brainstorm other safe places to play and discuss why these areas are better.
Review
What are some dangers of playing near building sites? What are some alternative places to play? What should you do if you see a building site?

Slide 7 - Diapositive

Review the main points of the lesson and check for understanding.
Conclusion

Always stay safe and find alternative places to have fun.

Slide 8 - Diapositive

Summarise the lesson and emphasise the importance of staying safe.

Research some of the places
where children can play locally.
Present your findings to the class.

Slide 9 - Question ouverte

You can set a longer research task for the class here. Written responses and pictures can be uploaded to share with the class.

I can explain why we should
never play near building sites
😒🙁😐🙂😃

Slide 10 - Sondage

This poll can give you a quick snapshot of pupil understanding.

Creating a poll is easy. There is a video guide on our website if you would like to know more.

Aardappeloproer
1917
