Slide 4 - Diapositive
Cells & Organelles:
Animal cells and plant cells
ANIMAL CELLS: NUCLEUS, CYTOPLASM, CELL MEMBRANE
PLANT CELLS: NUCLEUS, CYTOPLASM, CELL MEMBRANE, CELL WALL, CHLOROPLASTS & VACUOLE
Slide 5 - Diapositive
Cells & Organelles:
NUCLEUS: The brain of the cell, contains DNA.
CYTOPLASM: The jelly filling of cell, contains water and nutrients.
CELL MEMBRANE: The soft flexible wall around a cell, controls what goes in and out.
CELL WALL: A hard outer wall made of cellulose, it for protection and support.
CHLOROPLASTS:Little green balls in cells that can do photosynthesis.
VACUOLE: An extra balloon in a cell that can contain nutrients or colours.

LET'S DISCUSS
ORGAN TRANSPLANTS
What is donor transplantation?
Why do we need donors?
Do you want to be a donor? Why (not)?

Learning goals 2.3
You can describe and explain the following terms:
tissue and cell.
You can name the 4 tissue types and recognize them in a picture.
You can describe the functions of the 4 tissue types.
You can describe the difference between a
single-celled organism
and a
multicellular organism
.
Slide 11 - Diapositive
2.3 Tissues - important words
Cells
= the building blocks of an organism
Tissue
= a group of cells with the same shape and function
Extracellular material
= a liquid or solid substance in between the cells
Slide 12 - Diapositive
Examples
Slide 13 - Diapositive
Epithelial tissue
Cells that provide a covering (on the skin or surfaces inside your body, like lungs or intestines)
Slide 14 - Diapositive
Muscle tissue
Muscle cells that can
contract.
Found in your muscles, but also in your heart
and in your organs.
Slide 15 - Diapositive
Connective tissue
Supports other tissues and binds them together.
For example:
- Bone tissue
- Cartilage tissue
- Blood vessels
- Lymfe tissue
Slide 16 - Diapositive
Nerve tissue
Made from nerve cells that send and receive messages
Found in your brain, spinal cord & nerves
Slide 17 - Diapositive
Bone tissue
Made with a strong extracellular material
Found in your bones
Slide 18 - Diapositive
Cartilage tissue (kraakbeen)
Made with a flexibel extracellular material
Found in your ears, tip of your nose and
between the spinal column
Slide 19 - Diapositive
Which organ system is made up of nerve tissue?
Slide 20 - Question ouverte
Answer the following questions:
Which organ system is made up of nerve tissue?
Which organs are made up of muscle tissue?
What is de difference between bone tissue and cartilage tissue?
Do single-celled organisms also have tissues? Explain your answer.
