Slide 1 - Diapositive

What is length?
Length is the term used for identifying the size of an object or distance from one point to Length is a measure of how long an object is or the distance between two points. It is used for identifying the size of an object or distance from one point to another. The length of an object is its extended dimension, that is, its longest side.

Slide 2 - Diapositive

For example, the length of the ruler in the picture is 15 cm.

Slide 3 - Diapositive

Perimeter and area
Measure perimeters using non-standard units
Measure areas using non standard units
Describe the relationship between the size of a unit of area and the number of units needed to cover a surface

Slide 4 - Diapositive

What is perimeter ?
The perimeter of a shape is the distance around the shape. It is the total length of the shape's sides.

Slide 6 - Vidéo

What is area?
Area is the amount of space covered by a flat shape or surface. We use area for flat spaces only. The cover of a book is flat. The front of a closet door is flat.

Slide 8 - Vidéo

Area
Inside a polygon
Length x width
Count the square units
Operation x

Slide 9 - Diapositive

Perimeter
Outside a polygon
Add each side length
Operation +

Slide 10 - Diapositive

How are they alike?
Alike: they both measure shapes
Different: they are different because area uses multiplication and perimeter uses addition
