Prefixes and suffixes 

We use prefixes and suffixes to change the meaning of words. 

A prefix comes before the word, a suffix comes after the word. 

Prefixes: 

Un-, In-, Im-, Ir-, Il-, Dis-                                   

What do these prefixes do to the word? 

Deniable - undeniable                                      

Responsible - Irresponsible

Possible - Impossible 
Decent - Indecent

Logical - Illogical

Respectful - disrespectful 

Prefixes:

Design - redesign
Arrange - Rearrange 

And mis-? 

Understand - misunderstand

pronounce - mispronounce 

Suffixes: 

What does the suffix -er do to the word? (two things) 

Teach - teacher
High - higher 

What about -ing? 
Speak - speaking

Agree - agreement
