Slide 2 - Diapositive
An area can get water in three ways:
1. Precipitation
2. Receiving water from other areas
3. Through the supply of fossil water (aquifer)
Slide 3 - Diapositive

aquifer
)

Learning goals
You can explain the difference between
renewable water resources
and
non-renewable water resources
.
You can explain the importance of
sustainable water management
.
You know what a
water footprint
is and how to calculate it.
Slide 11 - Diapositive
Vocabulary
Resources
(hulp)br
onnen
Sustainable
Duurzaam
Replenished
Aangevuld
To fill something (example: water) up again
Renewable water resources
Vernieuwbaar water
Water that is replenished at the same rate that it is being used
Non-renewable water resources
Niet vernieuwbaar water
Water that is not, or very slowly replenished which means that it is going to run out (an aquifer for example)
Sustainable water management
Duurzaam watergebruik
Water management in which renewable water sources are used
Water footprint
Water voetafdruk
The total volume of fresh water used to produce the goods and services you consume
Slide 12 - Diapositive
Sustainable water management
Fresh water is limited
That is why you need to be careful with the amount of water you use
A distinction is made between:
-
renewable water resources
-
non-renewable water resources
Sustainable water management
= when you only use renewable water resources
Slide 13 - Diapositive
Vernieuwbaar water:
water dat in hetzelfde tempo aangevuld wordt als dat het wordt onttrokken (rivier, neerslag).
Niet-vernieuwbaar water:
water dat niet/langzaam wordt aangevuld, waardoor het opraakt.
Renewable water resources:
Water replenished at the same rate as it is withdrawn
- Rivers, precipitation
Non-renewable water resources:
Water that is not (or slowly) replenished, it will run out
- Fossil water in aquifers
If a country only uses renewable water resources =
sustainable water management
Slide 14 - Diapositive
Non-renewable resources:
it runs out
Renewable water resources:
it will not run out
Slide 15 - Diapositive
waterkringloop = vernieuwbaar water
Hydrological cycle = renewable water resource
Slide 16 - Diapositive
Water footprint
➡ All the fresh water used in your household, but also for agricultural and industrial products
➡ Dutch water footprint:
- domestic (
huishoudelijk
) water
- industrial water
-
agricultural water
+
= water footprint
Slide 17 - Diapositive
Slide 18 - Diapositive
Water footprint
Is influenced by:
Prosperity (
welvaart
)
Eating habits
Climate
Agricultural methods
