What are we going to learn today?

We are going to learn:

What a cell is.

What a cell consists of. 

What a organelle is and what the functions of those are. 

What photosynthesis and respiration is. 

What are cells?

Cells are the smallest unit of life. The express all the traits of life. Cells are the building blocks of life. There are different kind of cells in our body. 

What do cells consist of?

There are a lot of different processes going on in cells. That's why a cell consist of different ''organs'' as well. We call them organelles. 

Organelles

Cell membrane

Thin layer that envelops the cell and keeps it together. 

Cytoplasm 

The liquid inside a cell. 

Cell wall 

Thicker wall around the cell that keeps it sturdy and protects it. 

Nucleus 

Core of the cell where the genetic material is stored (DNA)

Organelles

Mitochondrium (p. mitochondria)

Respiration takes place in this part: it turns food and oxygen into energy

Chloroplast

Photosynthesis takes place in this part: it takes sunlight and CO2, and makes food out of it. 

Vacuole

An extra reservoir for water and/or waste in a cell.
