Slide 3 - Diapositive

Present simple explanation
We use the present simple with: 
regularities, frequencies, hobbies, facts and habits.


Examples (voorbeelden):​
  • I walk the dog every morning. (habit)
  • Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius. (fact)​

Signal words:
Always, sometimes, (n)ever, usually, seldom, often, on Mondays, every Saturday, on the weekend, etc.​

whole verb  or  whole + s ( = he, she, it)

Present continuous explanation
The present continuous is used to describe an action that is happening at the moment.

Examples (voorbeelden):​
I am walking home from school
She is listening to music

Signal words:
Right now, at the moment, look! listen! now etc...
How:
Use a form of to be: 
am/are/is + werkwoord + ing

Past simple
When to use the past simple?
We use the past simple for something in the past which is finished.
What? verb + ed
Example: I watched tv last night.

Negatives in the past simple: did + not + infinitive (hele ww)

I didn't play soccer last year. 
Mikayla didn't hug her girlfriend yesterday. 
My parents didn't name me after that actress. 

  • Remember we don't like double past!

What is the past continuous?
  • Een handeling in het verleden
  • Een handeling die een tijdsduur heeft en is afgelopen=> yesterday morning
  • Een activiteit die gaande was voordat het onderbroken werd => meestal de activiteit die het langst duurt.
