Welcome to another literature class wherein we are going to read some famous poems and try to analyse them together!

Before we start, how are we feeling today?

Requiescat- Oscar Wilde

Let's read this poem and think about it for a min.

Who do we think he is writing about?

The first stanza: "Tread lightly, she is near
Under the snow,
Speak gently, she can hear
The daisies grow." Where is she and why do we need to be gentle?

The second stanza:

"All her bright golden hair

Tarnished with rust,

She that was young and fair

Fallen to dust.

Lily-like, white as snow,

She hardly knew

She was a woman, so

Sweetly she grew."

What was he trying to explain in this stanza?

What is the message of this stanza: "Coffin-board, heavy stone,
Lie on her breast,
I vex my heart alone,
She is at rest."

Stanza 5

Peace, peace, she cannot hear

Lyre or sonnet,

All my life's buried here,

Heap earth upon it.

Meaning she can't hear anymore since she died and all those sonnets and poems go to nothing. He loved her dearly, thus his life is buried there with her. With a lot of earth on top of it, meaning all under the ground dead.

Has anyone heard about the Great Gatsby? What do we know about it?

It originally is a book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald containing a lot of literary elements.

But it got filmed and it is an amazing film with some elements included!
