Part 6: Gapped text
What is it?                                              A single page of text with some numbered gaps which represent missing sentences. After the text there are some sentences which are not in the right order. You have to read the text and the sentences and decide which sentence best fits each gap.

What do you have to practise?             How to understand the structure and development of a text.

  • up to 2 marks for each correct answer

How to prepare? 
The best practise is to read in English as much as possible. Books, articles, websites, magazines, etc.

You can also practise sentence structure and grammar.

How to act? 
Step 1: read the text quickly, ignoring the gaps
Step 2: analyze the sentences. What does the sentence mean? What grammatial tense do you see? What linking words do you see? 
Step 3: Look closely at the text before and after the gap and decide what sentence best fits te gap. 
Step 4: re-read the text with your answers and see if everything is logical

What is it?                                   A series of statements followed by a text divided into sections or several short texts. You have to match each statement to the section or text in which you can find the information.

What do you have to practise? 
How to understand the details of a text, including opinions and attitudes.
