Part of the United Nations 17 sustainable development goals

Build a sustainable village (and by doing so we cover goals 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 15!)

Sustainability 

The quality of causing little or no damage to the environment and therefore able to continue life for all creatures on earth for a long time.

Examples: fashion, buildings, food, farming, transportation.

Learning goals

Assignment  

- With your group you will design and build a scale model of a building.

- Decide wether you will make a house or a public building.

- Think about: energy - water - isolation for the building.

- What is the shape of the building: ARCHITECTURE (next slide)

- Which materials will you use for your model, think recyclable materials, paper, cardboard, wood etc.

The art and technique of designing and building

It is both the process and the product of sketching, conceiving, planning, designing, and constructing buildings or other structures.

- What is the goal of the building 

- What are the needs of the users/habitants

- Which style do you want

- What is the ground plan

The village

What does the village need:

- Infrastructure like roads, streetlights, etc.

- Where do the buildings fit best?

- What does the village need to be as sustainable as possible? 

Planning

Brainportweek:

- Designing the buildings and groundplans for the village

- Work out least 3 ideas for your building in drawings and writing, including energy/water/food supplies.

Düsseldorf exchange January:

- Execution: making the model with your German partners 

Evaluation

- Does the building fit the goals of use and sustainability?

- Is the building original in terms of architectural shapes?

- Can the village take care of its own energy, water and food?

- Is the groundplan for both your building and the village effective and logical?

- Is the quality of your workmanship (finishing) good?
