What does a text consist of? 

To answer this question, it is equally important to look at the different questions you may get during an exam. 

We see four different types of questions that are very frequently asked. 

1. Introduction of the topic

2. Arguments in favor or against

3. Expert questions

4. Examples

1. Introduction of the topic

• In a text, the topic is often introduced in the first paragraph
•  CITO often asks questions about the topic
• Look closely at the different questions that they ask, because they can be categorised in three ways

 Vraag: Wat is de kern van alinea 1?

Antwoord: link met titel + plaatje

Wat zegt de titel en het plaatje jou? 

Het goede antwoord is 'C'

Want er staat 'spare', waarvan je misschien weet of aan hoe je het schrijft af kunt lezen dat het 'spaar' betekent. 'Wily' moet je misschien opzoeken, maar betekent 'sluw'. Dit is geen heel negatieve manier om een dier aan te duiden, dus daar kun je al uit halen dat de schrijver niet heel negatief is over de dieren.

Okay, now we've looked at the simple question 'wat is de kern van alinea 1'.

That is one of the three possible questions you get in the beginning of a text. 

The other two options are: 

- Wat wordt er gezegd over ....? 

-Open vraag

Let op! CITO helpt je hier altijd op weg. De titel is in dit geval waarschijnlijk niet helemaal duidelijk en daarom geven ze je informatie in het gedeelte waarin ze zeggen 'over ...'.

Cito geeft je de volgende informatie: alinea 1 gaat over vegetarisme en trekt daar een conclusie.

A: there are no harmful side-effects to vegetarianism. 

B: Not mentioned and not a conclusion.

D: It will not lead to more traffic. That is only mentioned to compare the emission.

Open vragen

Of course, CITO also has open-ended questions. 

It is very well possible, that the first question of the text is an open-ended question. In that case, CITO will, once more, provide a lot of interesting information. 

Why do they have these open questions: because the title is difficult. 

What do you use to find the answer: the title, picture and the information you get from the question.

Je ziet dat de open vraag je best veel informatie geeft. Namelijk, dat de tekst gaat over het krimpen van de aantallen rode eekhoorns. Dat is belangrijke informatie die je zomaar cadeau krijgt.

De eerste vraag van een toets is onder te verdelen in drie vragen: 

1. Wat is de kern van alinea 1? 

2. Wat wordt er gezegd over ...?

3. Open vraag

Wat doe je als je deze vragen tegenkomt? 

De 5 gulden regels om te slagen

1. Gij zult niet de illusie koesteren het examen feilloos te maken, noch zult gij zich hierover bezwaard voelen.
2. Gij zult met gepaste vlijt uw aantekeningen bestuderen en deze in de praktijk brengen.
3. Gij zult leren. 
4. Gij zult niet in paniek raken als er in uw examen een onbekende, nieuwe vraagsoort staat. Gij zult die vraagsoort simpelweg als een grote lijnvraag behandelen.  
5. Gij zult leip gaan op signaalwoorden.
