What is the Genitive form?

The Genitive form is a grammatical form used to express possession or relationship between two nouns. It is formed by adding an apostrophe and an 's' ('s) to the noun.

Explain the definition of the Genitive form to the students.

Singular Nouns

In the case of a singular noun, add an apostrophe and an 's' ('s) to the noun. For example: 'The dog's tail'

Give examples of singular nouns and their Genitive form to the students.

Plural Nouns Ending in 's'

If a plural noun ends in 's', just add an apostrophe after the 's'. For example: 'The boys' football game'

Give examples of plural nouns ending in 's' and their Genitive form to the students.

Plural Nouns Not Ending in 's'

If a plural noun does not end in 's', add an apostrophe and an 's' ('s) to the noun. For example: 'The children's playground'

Give examples of plural nouns not ending in 's' and their Genitive form to the students.

Irregular Nouns

Some nouns have irregular Genitive form. For example: 'The woman's purse', 'The men's room', 'The children's toys'

Give examples of irregular nouns and their Genitive form to the students.

Using the Genitive Form

The Genitive form is used to show possession or relationship between two nouns. For example: 'John's car', 'The book's cover'

Explain the use of the Genitive form to the students.

Interactive Exercise

Provide a list of 10 sentences and ask the students to identify which ones contain the Genitive form. Then, ask them to write the Genitive form of the nouns in those sentences.
